Valentine's Day Crafts

Image
I made some valentines for the kids. There were plenty of cards and candies.   The moment I saw these, I knew I had to make them for Will and Sebi. And of course, there's always the Dr. Who lover in your life . . . We were going to go out to dinner at the Black Sheep Cafe , but then we were invited over to Mark & Ann's for dinner, so we had a wonderful lunch at Black Sheep Cafe and then a riotously fun time with three other couples at Mark & Ann's.

Sundance Night Skiing

Image
This Christmas some of the big presents were about skiing: Will got skis, poles, and boots, and Sebastian got the Sundance ski school, which took off five times from Wasatch, went up to Sundance for a lesson and then gave them some free time to ski.  Rob took Will up three or four times to meet Sebi and then they went night skiing afterward.   It really gave Sebastian some more time on the slopes to practice, and Will was itching to use his new things. They went and went and went and Rob would run out and give them snacks and encouragement and snap some pictures at the bottom of the mountain. Then he would come back in here to his hot chocolate and reading for another half hour or so. Not a bad place to hang out.

Housework, a Picture Journal

I am shamelessly adding posts for the last six months because I want to have them here. Not because I want anyone else to read them. Especially this one.  I actually got out the camera and set the timer in these two pictures to motivate myself to clean the kitchen. I still read and believe in Flylady , who says "You can do anything for 15 minutes". And when I keep track, it really does make me think the mess isn't as bad as I thought.  Then I tried it with the laundry. I wanted to post these pictures to remember that recently I began listening to TED talks while folding my laundry. Best thing ever! I learn about global health, women's issues, fashion and copyright, solar apartment gardening, language and finances, happiness, urban gardening, parenting, economics, and on and on. And the clothes get folded. I tell the kids that it's "Mommy Sesame Street".

Cake Decorating: Chinese New Year's Edition

Image
I'm going to call it right now: this is the most spectacular cake that has ever come out of this kitchen. Rob and Sebi made it for the cub scout Blue and Gold dinner and I am just gobsmacked by it. It even used sugar dough (I don't know what that is, but Rob and Sebi do). The sum total of my involvement was purchasing ingredients and giving them my wisdom on Starburst decorations.  "Like a boss!" says the cook. And it looked like so much fun that even the alumnus got in on the action.
