The ORF Field Trip

Yesterday we had a field trip with the German classes. Frau Jax took us to see the Austrian TV stations. The Oesterreichisches Rund Funk GmbH controls a few TV channels here and several radio stations as well. We learned about makeup and cameras and studios and some of their visual tricks and stuff like that. We also got to play around in a studio using the blue screen. My camera was really acting up, but you might still be able to see some of the results. I was also tickled that I could understand our guide. The Viennese accent can be thick like Nutella or thick like granite. Our guide was clear and I understood everything about Dancing Stars (their version of Dancing with the Stars) and Millionenrad (you buy lotto tickets to come down and spin a wheel for cash) and even a show that sounded like Cash Shower (you stand in a booth and have 36 seconds to pocket as much cash as you can. It comes flying out at you as if from a shower). I also found out that TV personalities here have about 1 cm of makeup on by the time their finished. Ugh!
