(From Rob) Sunday in the Park with Papa

Maddie and Will were very good about going off to the Primary (children's meeting) at the LDS congregation in Vienna on Sunday Morning. They met up with friends from years past, sang German hymns, and then changed their clothes. I had packed a picnic lunch which we ate at the huge Prater park which is by the Church.

The kids went on a zip line and played on other phenomenal toys, as only European Parks have them. There are two reasons, I think, for such creative and fun parks here: 1: A less active culture of litigation 2: These parks function as peoples' yards, and so they use them and expect them to be well-maintained.

Later, we rented a bycicle buggy and took turns steering and peddling down the mile-long Chenstnut-lined Hauptallee of the Prater. There are no cars, just walkers and cyclists. I want a car-free promenade like this in Provo. What do you think the chances are of something like that? We made it down to the dubious-sounding but innocent Lusthaus, a pavillion built by the emporer in "Amadeus" (Joseph II). There, we watched some horses in a pasture (the race track is near) and ate some ice cream. A pleasant Sunday. It only would have been better if Mama and the little guys would have been here!

Maddie, do you remember that we saw a bicycle buggy like that in Golden Gate Park when we went to the museum to see the Chihuly exhibit? I think it was on the way to the Conservatory of Flowers to see the butterfly house.

I'm totally voting for that car-free promenade in Provo. Of course, with the way gas prices are going up here in the states, I've seen a lot less cars around. Our neighborhood is full of people walking, on bikes, scooters, golf carts and even Segways! It's great.
